Audio books coming to Google Play Store

Google is preparing to challenge Amazon even on the audiobooks. According to the 9to5Google website, the Play Store, the Big G digital store, began to publicize the new product, a potential rival of the Amazon-owned Audible platform.

The promotional banner of audiobooks appeared in recent days on the American version of Google Play with an offer on the first purchase at half price. The content link led to an error page, but for 9to5Google it's a clue to the upcoming news.

Google, which already hosts some audiobooks on its digital store, but not a detailed section, has not given any indication. However, in a statement to the Mashable website, a spokesman for the Californian company said: "We do not comment on indiscretions or speculations, now I have to go back to my book", with the emoji of eyes open on a book and the symbol of an hourglass. The novelty could therefore be just a matter of time. Especially since the Android Police has discovered in the new version of the Play Books application, Google, a piece of code that refers to audiobooks.
