Elephant S8, a phone that draws our attention in the design side and this time we will review it. In addition to the attractive design, this phone also has a high end specification and a screen that wow have. The chipset uses the Helio X25 from MediaTek which is a deca core chipset (10 cores) each of which has different speeds, precisely this chipset has two 2.5GHz A-72 Core, four A53 cores at 2.0GHz, and four A53 cores at a speed of 1.4GHz.

Body & Design & Display

The screen on the Elephant S8 looks wide, big and satisfying when used playing games and watch Youtube deh. And on the right and left right hand side approach Bezelless which leaves only the bezel space at the bottom to put the button.

The design of this device looks cool with shiny colors with a slightly curved design on the back cover of the body surface. Rear camera sensor seems a bit prominent on the surface of the rear body.

Speak thickness, it is a bit thick compared to the trend of slim phones today, but still quite comfortable and reasonable thickness. Indeed we think this thickness may be due to the mobile phone battery that is large 4000 mAh.

The screen size of this phone is slightly longer than the Samsung Galaxy S8 and for the width is much wider than Samsung Galaxy S8. For those of you who have small sized hands a bit troublesome carrying this phone because of the dimension of the width dimension. Then when we compare with the size of Lenovo P2 Turbo which is a 5.5-inch smartphone the size is almost the same, only the Elephant S8 slightly wider than P2, whereas the screen on Lenovo P2 only 5.5 inches and Elephant S8 has a wider screen.

Another uniqueness that the authors found, it turns out there is only one button on the front screen Elephant S8 located at the bottom. So with this one button we can use the back function, the function back to Home, and the function of displaying the currently active application.

Double-click on the button to run the function back to Home, once clicks serve as Back, and long press on the button will display on the screen, the list of currently active applications and Memory Optimizer icon buttons (icons look like Recycle Bin) that will close applications that is running from memory.

The back of the phone is quite easy to keep the hand, feels a bit slippery but does not make it easy to fall from our grip.

Then at the time the authors want to plug in earphones, the author scratching his head for not finding the earphone jack on this smartphone. Apparently Elephant bandwagon trends remove headphone jack like Apple and include headphone jack connector to USB type C in sales package. Little wonder also why Elephant follow-up in this case because the author of the taste is rather troublesome.

For screens, we value being able to display colors, contrast and light well and clearly.

ClearMotion and MiraVision features

Elephant S8 also has an interesting feature that complements its screen functions are ClearMotion and MiraVision. MiraVision offers an enhanced setting function for various aspects of the screen as follows:
  • Screen Backlight
  • Quick Mode (Picture Mode: Standard, Vivid, UserMode)
  • Basic Color Tuning (Contrast, Saturation, Picture Brightness)
  • Advanced Tuning: Sharpness, Color TEmperature
  • Dynamic Contrast
  • Viewing Comfort: Blulight Defender, Chameleon DIsplay
While ClearMotion offers an option to improve the quality of smooth movement on the video.

Software & Features

We found the software of Elephant S8 quite simple and as it is as Android stock ROM, very little bloatware is included, There are only standard applications from Android in general, such as File Manager, Gallery, Music and we only find additional applications such as App Locker, Recorder and Notebook. The operating system used up to date is the version of Android 7.1.1 at the time of writing this article is still quite new.

The following is a screenshot display of the default applications list that appears on the Home screen as well as the Application list screen.

Elephant S8 has a fairly complete sensor, the accelerometer sensor, light sensor, orientation sensor, proximity sensor, gyroscope sensor, sound sensor, magnetic sensor, while not found in this device is temperature / temperature sensors and pressure sensors.

Camera sensors embedded in this device is quite large that is 21Mp on the rear camera and rear camera sensor of 8 Mp and according to information we get using sensors made by Sony.

The quality of the rear camera is quite ordinary even arguably slightly below that we expect where autofocus is rather slow and while in the outdoor, the more light factor makes the results of the photo show much more white than it should.

Then for the quality of the front camera is also less good, you could say if you are a smartphone user who prioritizes the quality of the camera, then this smartphone will disappoint you but if you use the camera only occasionally then the performance and quality of this camera device can still meet your needs.
