Xiaomi Mi A1 Finally Gets Android Oreo

New Delhi - Users of Xiaomi Mi A1 are reported to have received Android Oreo updates at the end of last year. This is in line with the promise of the Chinese company that will launch the Oreo on at Mi A1 by 2017.

The launch of the update came after a tweet by Xiaomi India announcing the initial delay of the update the day before.

The update weighs more than 1GB so it's a pretty big download. The update also brings security updates in December.

Users who update will see new standard Oreo features such as lighter UI color, notification point, Auto Fill app, Night Light mode, Picture-in-Picture mode, and more.

Xiaomi Mi A1 launched under Google Android One program with Android 7.1.2 Nougat in September and promised to receive Android Oreo update at the end of 2017.

The new Android version began launching as a progressive over-the-air (OTA) update on December 31, to keep that promise.

As the official post on the MIUI Xiaomi Forum, users must install software version 7.12.19 (Android Nougat) on their Mi A1 to receive OTA updates to Android Oreo (version 7.12.29). The update package comes in 1107.4MB and includes Android security patches in December along with other new features.

Xiaomi Mi A1 is the first smartphone in the Mi family to receive Android Oreo update. The Beijing-based company announced last month it is looking for beta testers to get feedback on the new update from a small group of users.

Xiaomi Mi A1 features a 5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) screen with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. The phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, coupled with 4GB of RAM. This smartphone incorporates a dual camera setting on the back with two 12 megapixel image sensors.
